Carentan – Copehill Down

The players pack is now available. It is in PDF format and is approximately 10 mb.

The Battle of Carentan was an engagement in World War II between airborne forces of the United States Army and the German Wehrmacht during the Invasion of Normandy. The battle took place between 10 and 15 June 1944, on the approaches to and within the city of Carentan, France.

The objective of the attacking American forces was consolidation of the U.S. beachheads (Utah Beach and Omaha Beach) and establishment of a continuous defensive line against expected German counterattacks. The defending German force attempted to hold the city long enough to allow reinforcements en route from the south to arrive, prevent or delay the merging of the lodgments, and keep the U.S. First Army from launching an attack towards Lessay-Périers that would cut off the Cotentin Peninsula.

Carentan was defended by the 6th Parachute Regiment, two Ost battalions and remnants of other German forces. The 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division, ordered to reinforce Carentan, was delayed by transport shortages and attacks by Allied aircraft. The attacking 101st Airborne Division, landed by parachute on 6 June as part of the American airborne landings in Normandy, was ordered to seize Carentan.

In the ensuing battle, the 101st forced passage across the causeway into Carentan on 10 June and 11 June. A lack of ammunition forced the German forces to withdraw on 12 June. The 17th SS PzG Division counter-attacked the 101st Airborne on 13 June. Initially successful, its attack was thrown back by Combat Command A (CCA) of the U.S. 2nd Armored Division.

Taking overall charge of the U.S. Forces will be Ian ‘Cambo’ Richardson from Tippmann UK. His reliable 2IC is to be Anthony ‘martello’ Ledger of the PUPS.

Leading the German’s will be Alexander ‘woodyudet’ Woodward of the Kent Rangers. Alongside him as his 2IC shall be Eddie ‘neff’ Toase from the Wild Geese.

Each of the U.S. and German teams will be split into 2 squads. The U.S. squads will take the shape of the 101st and the 501st PIR. The German’s will be split into the 38th Panzer-Grenadier Regiment and the Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6.

The main ‘scenario’ game will be played in two parts.

Part 1 will take place on the Saturday afternoon (times to be confirmed). This phase of the game will see the U.S. Force’s advancing into ‘Carentan’. Although starting in defensive positions awaiting the U.S. assault, the German team will be outnumbered.

Part 2 will start promptly at 0900 Sunday morning and run as a continuous game until 1400. Depending on each of the teams finishing positions and points scored in Part 1 of the scenario, will determine starting positions for Part 2.

Confirmed attendees are currently the ever reliable BZ Paintball Supplies, Enola Gaye and also Demon Paintball. Each of these traders offer fantastic deals on all the goodies that will keep you in the field playing all weekend long, please support them by giving them your custom.

Certain tech services may also be available but if the workings of your marker are unknown to you then bring a spare just in case. CARENTAN takes place at Copehill Down Urban Training Village. Gentleman, this is not a specific paintball site. It is an active Ministry of Defense training area and as such certain rules and regulations must be adhered to. Full details of which will be well documented in your personal disclaimer which will be filled out promptly at registration of the event. Full directions to the site will be issued nearer to the game date but for those of you looking to make travel arrangements, Copehill Down is located approx 5 minutes away from the village of Chitterne in Wiltshire.

We are allowed to use this property at the kind behest of the MOD. This is a live operational facility and as such is subject to last minute changes in booking if operations require it. Therefore there is a very, very, very slim chance that our date may be changed with little notice. It goes without saying that all tickets will be valid for the new date.

This will be a clear paint event only. If you have any clear paint left over from CtD2 then you will be able to use it at this game otherwise only pre-ordered paint will be allowed. Paint orders can be made when bookings open and can be paid at the same time as your ticket or cash on the day. Paint will be £30 per box of 2000. Please ensure that your paintball marker is clear of any coloured paint BEFORE arriving on site. You will be committed to purchasing any paint that you order.
